A new and exciting weekend course exploring the beautiful technique of cloisonné and enamel.
Together we'll learn the basic skills required, working on copper with opaque and transparent enamels, then progressing to your own simple design on fine silver pendant on day two. For those with enamelling experience this course will add a new decorative technique to your enamelling bow!
During this more advanced enamelling course, we will learn to use pliers to shape cloisonné wires, as well as covering wet-laying techniques, before drying and firing our enamel onto the metal. Some previous experience of kiln enamelling is essential. If you haven't done any enamelling before, please book for my day course "Enamelling on Copper for Beginners" first, thank you.
On this day course you will learn to:
Prepare copper and silver prior to enamelling
Make test pieces using opaque and transparent enamels with copper and silver cloisonné wires, silver foils and other media
Cover health and safety and the kiln firing process
Learn to manipulate wire to form copper / silver cloisonné's
Explore the use of transparent enamels and how to grind and prepare them for use
Stoning back enamel and fire polishing.
Make a finished small enamelled plaque to hang on the wall (to your own design) using cloisonné techniques by the end of the first day
Design a simple small fine silver pendant with cloisonné wires to finish and fire polish by the end of the second day.
Receive peer and tutor feedback on your creativity!
A supply of silver-plated jewellery findings will be available on which to mount your sample pieces.
There is a limit of 4 people per workshop to enable 1:1 support and guidance.
Please note: The course takes place in a working glass studio and not a classroom setting, so participants need to be able to stand to prepare enamelled pieces, and to work standing at benches. (Stools are available in between times) If you have any questions regarding mobility, please email me via the "contact" page. Thank you.
