Advanced enamelling: Gaining confidence in design & colour Sat 26th Sept 2026

£195.00Price

Advanced Enamelling - gaining confidence in colour and design in enamelling to "personalise" your work and weave in your own story. A course for experienced enamellers wishing to develop their own personal style, individual designs and take their use and understanding of colour, pattern and design to a higher level.

Date: Saturday 26th September 2026

Time: 10.00am -5.00pm

Venue: Rainbow Glass Studios N16 0JL

Please note: this course is designed for advanced enamellers with significant previous experience. It is not suitable for beginners who have never enamelled before as we will not be covering the basics. You will need to have attended my introductory courses ( i.e: Enamelling for Beginners and Intermediate Enamelling on Copper Bowls) before enrolling. Please see other dates listed to attend those courses first if you have never enamelled with me before. Thank you.

Learning enamel techniques from other enamellers is only a good starting point, applying them to create your own individual style (and not just copying their pieces) demands a deeper exploratory approach.

" Seeding new ideas"

In this workshop we will be working from an item of personal inspiration via a series of creative and observational exercises each exploring our connection to our object and the stories we associate with it.

We will translate our discoveries into our artwork making a series of decorative enamelled samples and progress to enamel a 7.5cm x 7.5cm copper picture panel mounted on a 15cm x 15cm white-painted MDF square ready to hang on the wall. Your initial samples may also become a second collaged picture to take home.

Eleanor your tutor is keen to steer you away from "just copying" others work and techniques, to having your own starting point, story, or personal inspiration to see what emerges from your initial creative spark.

  • Background to my approach to enamelling:

A workshop is for advanced enamellers with significant previous experience in enamelling and the use of a kiln. It is not a course for beginners. Please attend my Beginners and Intermediate classes before enrolling on this one or contact me first if you are not sure if this course is for you. Thank you.

Learn to make connections with yourself, your inspiration, your enamelling, your colours, your designs, your resulting enamelled pieces  (and your customers who may buy from you.) Sometimes we can become addicted to learning new techniques, we'll try anything, gathering more and more “technical tools” (of which courses on techniques are a part) but how do we take these and make them our own and not just come up with copies of what the tutor makes, which for them and us is not very satisfying, and just feels like copying? (Which if we are honest, it often is!) What is it that will set your work apart as original?

This workshop is about getting beyond this point. How to put something of ourselves into our making so it sings out “ made by me” and everyone can tell because it speaks of us personally?

This side of craft / art isn’t often taught and perhaps that’s because it is an approach that has to be caught and adopted not at the moment we sift enamel onto copper, but with some homework and preparation before we even think of lifting a sieve!

If you're up for thinking outside the box and a creative challenge, this course is for you.....!
