Where are The Jewellery Boat courses held?

Courses are held at:

Rainbow Glass Studios
Unit 6, 172C Stoke Newington Church Street
London N16 0JL

The studio is in Stoke Newington, North London, to the rear of the Post Office on Stoke Newington Church Street.

How many people attend each course?

The Jewellery Boat keeps classes small so that students receive plenty of individual attention.

Fused glass courses: maximum 6 students.

Enamelling courses: maximum 4 students.

Course size and age requirements are shown on the individual course pages.

Do I need previous experience?

It depends on the course.

The beginners' fused glass and enamelling courses are designed for people who have little or no previous experience.

Intermediate and advanced courses require previous experience. Please read the individual course description before booking, particularly for Enamelling Copper Bowls and Advanced Enamelling.

What age do I need to be to attend a course?

Most courses are for students aged 16 and over.

For the Fused Glass Christmas Decorations course, children aged 12 and over may attend when accompanied by a paying adult or guardian who is also taking part in the class.

Please check the individual course page before booking because age requirements can vary.

What do I need to bring to a workshop?

Please wear closed-toe shoes because you will be working with tools and, on some courses, heat.

If you have long hair, please bring something to tie it back.

An apron is recommended. Bring your glasses if you normally need them for close work, and a notebook and pen if you would like to take notes.

You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit one of the cafés on Stoke Newington Church Street. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided during the day.

Do I need to be able to stand for the course?

The courses take place in a working glass studio and most practical work is carried out standing at studio benches.

Stools are available for resting between activities, but students need to be able to stand for much of the practical work.

If you have accessibility requirements or are unsure whether the studio environment will suit you, please contact Eleanor before booking.

What are the health and safety requirements?

Safety is an important part of every workshop.

Safety equipment is available where required, including safety goggles for glass-cutting activities.

For enamelling courses, please follow the studio's current respiratory protection and kiln-safety procedures when working with dry enamel and firing equipment.

The studio provides guidance on safe working practices at the start of the course.

How do I book a course?

Course places are booked through The Jewellery Boat website.

A place is secured once payment has been received, after which you will receive confirmation of your booking.

You can see the current dates, availability and booking links on the Course Dates & Booking page.

How do I pay for a course?

Course payments are made through the website using the available Wix payment options, including PayPal where offered.

Your booking is confirmed once payment has been received.

What happens to my fused glass pieces after the course?

Fused glass pieces are normally fired and, where required, slumped after the course.

You will be contacted when your finished work is ready.

You can arrange to collect your pieces from Rainbow Glass Studios, or they can be posted to you.

Postage and packing are not included in the course price. The cost depends on the size and weight of the finished parcel and will be confirmed before posting.

Can I change my course date?

Please contact Eleanor as soon as possible if you need to change the date of a booked course.

The course cancellation and rebooking terms apply, so please check the current terms before making a booking.

What is the course cancellation policy?

The current cancellation policy allows a full refund or rebooking when at least 4 weeks' notice is given.

With 3 weeks' notice, a 75% refund may apply, subject to the circumstances and whether the place can be filled.

For cancellations with less than 3 weeks' notice, the course fee is normally non-refundable unless another student can take the place.

Please read the full cancellation terms before booking.

What happens if The Jewellery Boat has to cancel a course?

If Eleanor needs to cancel a course because of circumstances beyond her control, the course fee will be returned in accordance with the applicable booking terms. Please refer to the current terms and conditions for full details
