  • This enamelling course is for students who have previous experience of enamelling and who want to develop their skills enamelling onto curved surfaces.
  • You will make two finished enamelled copper bowls and decorative samples suitable for use as jewellery.
  • Eleanor, our experienced tutor will provide you with the tools and techniques to explore endless possibilities for decorative enamelling.
  • The course is suitable adults aged 16 or over with some prior knowledge and experience in enamelling.
  • Course outline:

Our exciting new intermediate day course learning to apply enamel onto small spun copper bowls and decorate them with a wide range of enamel media and techniques.

Enamelling is a delightful alchemy of glass and metal, and working on larger surfaces gives more scope for decorative expression.

During the course of this fun day we will:

    • Learn to clean and prepare our bowls prior to applying enamel
    • Refresh best practice in working with enamels for obtaining a good surface on which to decorate
    • Make decorative samples to lead us into decorating two copper bowls to our own designs
    • Cover a wide range of decorative techniques and enamel media as options for decorating our bowls
    • Learn to apply and fire enamel to curved surfaces
    • Learn and adhere to best health and safety practices in the use of enamels and for firing and studio best practice
    • Learn from each other, and encourage each others creativity
    • Take home two finished small enamelled copper bowls and and a selection of decorative enamel samples (which may also be used as pendants - we will mount them on chains for you to wear home)
    • The size of our copper bowls will be approx 7.5cm / 3in diameter across.
    • Understand the tools and materials used and receive advice on kilns and suppliers
    • A course for adults over the age of 16 years old.
    • All materials are included.
    • Refreshments (tea, coffee and biscuits) are available all day, and we will break at lunchtime for 45 minutes for students to have lunch. (There are numerous lovely cafes in the locality!)

    Please note:

    • This course takes place in a working glass studio, and most of the day we will be working standing at work benches or at the kiln.
    • There are stools available in between times, unfortunately the studio is not able to accommodate disabled or wheelchair access. Thank you.
