The Jewellery Boat® - Frequently Asked Questions

How many people attend The Jewellery Boat® workshops at Rainbow Glass Studios?

The maximum number of students we book on one day is 6 people. My courses are for adults over the age of 16 years old. For the Fused Glass Christmas Decorations courses children of 12 years and over may attend provided they are accompanied by a fee paying adult also taking part in the class. The studio space is equipped to hold workshops in fused glass, glass jewellery and kiln enamelling.

What do I need to bring to a workshop at Rainbow Glass Studios?

  • Please wear "closed toe" shoes as we will be working with tools (and sometimes heat) and your toes need to be protected.

  • Bring something with which to tie your hair back (if it is long)

  • An apron is a good idea

  • Your glasses if you normally need them for close work

  • A notebook and pen for your own notes

  • We will have a lunch break. You can either bring a packed lunch or frequent one of the many lovely cafe's on Church Street. I will provide plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits during the day.

  • Please note: classes take place in a working glass studio. You will need to be able to stand at our benches to cut glass and to use equipment. Stools are available for a rest in between times, but we will need to stand up to work for the majority of the time.

  • Bring your enthusiasm to learn some new skills and to make new friends!

Making a payment for a class:

Payments for classes are made via the shop on this website. Your place on a course is only secured when payment has been received after which you will receive email confirmation of your booking. Please make your payments via WIX or PayPal.

For the fused glass classes, your creations will be fired and slumped following the class. I will notify you when they are either ready for collection from the studio or alternatively I will post them out to you. Postage and Packing for your glass is not included in the cost of any course. Depending on the size and weight of your parcel, the cost to send this (via Royal Mail, Recorded Delivery) will be between £15 - £25 in the UK only. This is payable in advance before I post the parcel and I will provide you with the Royal Mail Tracking number once your parcel is paid for and sent.

For additional courses in stained glass and traditional painting on glass techniques taking place at Rainbow Glass Studios, it is also possible to book via www.rainbowglassstudios.co.uk

Class cancellation policy

If you need to cancel your participation in a booked class, you will receive a full refund only if you cancel at least 3 weeks prior to your scheduled class. Unfortunately for cancellations made at less than 3 weeks the course fee cannot be refunded unless we can find someone to take your space. In the event that we can't find a replacement student we cannot refund the course fee. However, your fee will be returned if Eleanor needs to cancel the class due to circumstances beyond her control (minus 3% PayPal commission if your original payment via PayPal was made more than 6 months ago as this is now charged on refunds over 180 days by PayPal, not by the studio). We would recommend you consider taking out insurance in the possible event of not being able to attend due to personal reasons, illness, emergencies or adverse weather conditions. Thank you.

Covid-19 Studio Policy / Health and Safety

With Covid-19 being less of an ongoing health issue at present, we are not requiring students to wear masks or visors, but would want to encourage sensible health and safety measures whilst working together in the studio.

  • To work with clean hands, using sanitiser or soap and water when necessary and to repeat this frequently during the day.

  • Supplies of hand sanitiser / soap will be available for use.

  • For classes involving cutting glass, safety goggles will also be available for use

  • For the enamelling classes it will be necessary to wear an FP3 Face Mask whenever you are sifting dry enamels. This is a health and safety requirement for working with enamel at any time and is not linked to Covid PPE guidance. It's to keep you safe and your lungs in particular!

  • To work mainly at the workstation allocated to you as a student and to be mindful of giving each other space during the day for instance when we need to be gathered as a "distanced" group for tutor demonstrations.

  • To use the "one-way" system within the studio (which will be explained to you on arrival) to help us all circulate easily within the studio space.

  • We will ventilate the studio either by leaving the doors and windows open if the weather allows, or otherwise using an extractor fan to circulate fresh air to everyone attending. We will also use a Co2 monitor and ventilate the space as needed.

  • If anyone is showing current signs or symptoms of the Covid-19 Virus, (for instance: a new persistent cough, loss of taste or smell, or a high temperature or a positive test from contact with another person) please stay at home, do not attend the studio and seek NHS or GP advice instead. We all owe it to each other not to spread the virus knowingly. Thank you.

  • Our usual terms and conditions apply to cancellations at anything less than 3 weeks notice, (and this includes for reasons of last minute Covid infection). Please see the Class Cancellation policy above on this page for more details.

  • Whilst we cannot insist on students having had vaccinations against Covid, we ourselves are fully vaccinated as tutors and would recommend students consider vaccination prior to attending if age and personal health allows for this.

  • To be patient with each other!  Some students may be more nervous than others after lockdown or have greater need for self-protection. We will be supportive of each other and non-judgemental in all respects to these requirements. Thank you!

FAQ's for purchases of jewellery from my shop:

How quickly will the jewellery I am purchasing be posted to me?

  • Usually within 3 working days (excluding Public and Bank Holidays), often sooner. I will do my best to send the item(s) to you as swiftly as I can.

Why will it be sent 1st Class Royal Mail Recorded delivery / signed for?

  • In order to ensure the item is tracked to your door as well as it being insured along the way.

  • This gives us both some financial protection in the event of an item potentially being "lost in the post".

What if I am placing an order from a country other than the United Kingdom? How much will the postage be?

  • Please contact me via the "contact page" above and let me know what you want to buy.

  • I will then establish any additional postage costs and will only charge you for the amount over and above "1st Class Royal Mail Recorded Delivery / signed for fees" for the UK to send it to your country. I will contact you to let you know so you can decide if you want to go ahead with the order.

  • However, I will insist on a "tracked & signed for" postage option when sending outside the United Kingdom.

  • Please also remember that purchasing from abroad sometimes mean there will be import tax, customs duties or VAT payable as the item comes into your own country. These are unfortunately not covered by my purchase price nor the postage and packing costs listed and are therefore payable by you as the customer.

Do you only use sterling silver .925 for your jewellery findings (e.g.earring studs, bails, wires etc)?

  • I use sterling silver (.925), fine silver (.999) or stainless steel wire for earring wires.

  • Each item advertised lists the materials from which the item is made.

  • Please be aware that stainless steel can contain nickel to which some people can be allergic.

  • If you require something other than silver findings on any of my jewellery, please contact me to discuss alternative options, I will be pleased to advise and assist.

Can I return or exchange jewellery I have bought from you?

  • Returns are only accepted if there is evidence that an item is faulty.

  • All earrings are non-returnable and cannot be exchanged for reasons of health and safety.

  • Items (other than earrings) can be exchanged for a credit note to the same value paid as at the time of purchase (excluding postage and packing costs)

  • Any credit note issued will be valid for a period of 6 months from the date of the exchange and will bear the expiry date for your reference.

  • Thank you!
