Advanced Enamelling workshop in London
Develop your confidence in colour and design and take your enamelling in a more personal direction.
This is a creative workshop with Eleanor Watson for experienced enamellers who want to develop their own visual style, explore individual ideas and use enamelling techniques to create work that tells their own story.
Rather than simply copying existing examples or techniques, the workshop encourages you to start with your own inspiration and explore where it leads.

Please note: This is an advanced workshop for enamellers with significant previous experience. It is not suitable for beginners and the basic techniques will not be covered.
You should have attended Eleanor’s introductory enamelling courses, such as Enamelling on Jewellery for Beginners and Enamelling Copper Bowls, or have equivalent experience with enamelling and using a kiln.

Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is designed for experienced enamellers who already have a good understanding of enamelling techniques and kiln firing.
It is particularly suited to makers who want to move beyond simply learning techniques and begin developing a more individual approach to their work.
The emphasis is on personal inspiration, colour, pattern, design and creative exploration.
What will you explore?
During the workshop, you’ll explore how to:

Learning techniques from other enamellers is only the starting point. The aim is to use those techniques as a springboard for creating work that is genuinely your own.
"Seeding New Ideas"
The workshop begins with an item or source of personal inspiration.
Through a series of creative and observational exercises, you’ll explore your connection to the object and the stories, memories or associations you attach to it. From these observations, you’ll begin to develop ideas for colour, pattern, shape and design.
The process is deliberately exploratory. There is no requirement to produce a particular type of finished object — the focus is on discovering where your own ideas can take you.
What will you make?
You’ll translate your discoveries into a series of decorative enamelled samples.
These will be used to explore and develop your ideas, rather than simply copying an existing design.
You’ll also create a 7.5cm × 7.5cm copper picture panel, mounted onto a 10cm × 10cm or 15cm x 15cm white-painted MDF square, ready to hang on the wall.
Your initial enamel samples may also develop into a second collage piece for you to take home.
Developing your own style
Eleanor's approach is to steer you away from simply copying other people's work or techniques. Instead, you'll be encouraged to find your own starting point — whether that comes from an object, a memory, a story, an image or another personal source of inspiration.
The aim is to discover what emerges from your own creative spark and develop that into enamelled work with a more individual character.
