This course is suitable for:

• Complete beginners with no previous enamelling experience

• Anyone interested in learning how to enamel copper jewellery

• People wanting to explore kiln-fired enamelling

• Anyone looking for a creative new skill or hobby

The course is suitable for ages 16 and over.

What will you learn?

During the day you will learn how to:

• Prepare copper for enamelling

• Apply finely powdered glass enamel to copper

• Sift and fuse enamel using a kiln

• Work with opaque and transparent vitreous enamels

• Use decorative inclusions such as frit, glass threads, millefiori and silver leaf

• Create colour and surface effects using stencils, printing and drawing

• Understand the kiln-firing process and relevant health and safety

• Combine different techniques to create individual jewellery designs

• Mount finished enamelled pieces onto jewellery findings

You will make several sample pieces while experimenting with different techniques before creating a final piece of jewellery.

What will you make?

During the course you will create 3 or 4 pieces of your own enamelled jewellery, experimenting with colour, pattern, texture and decorative inclusions.

Your final pieces will be mounted onto silver or gold-plated jewellery findings so they can be worn and enjoyed after the course.

• Opaque and transparent vitreous enamels

• Sifting powdered enamel

• Kiln firing

• Millefiori

• Drawing and surface decoration

What's included?

The course includes tuition and practical guidance throughout the day, with the opportunity to experiment with a range of enamelling materials and techniques.

Eleanor will guide you through each stage, from preparing the copper and applying enamel to firing and finishing your jewellery.
